Amongst the many features of interest in the Münster is the tomb of the Renaissance humanist Erasmus (c.1466-1536), who lived in Basel for several years and died there. His bones, lost during 19th century alterations, were identified in 1974 and now rest under his epitaph. The cathedral benefactor Heinrich II, church model in his arms, is portrayed on the right side of the main portal with his wife, whilst on the right is the c.1280 depiction of a seducer and a virgin. Toads and snakes crawl on the tempter as the virgin smiles and undresses. The cloisters are worthy of attention.
