The magnificent Romanesque portal of the north transept dates from about 1180 and is named after the nearby altar dedicated to St Gallus. The series of pictures represent the Last Judgement. The tympanum above the doorway depicts Christ enthroned in the top centre, flanked by Peter and Paul, with the Wise and Foolish Virgins below. Between the columns on either side of the door are Luke, Mark, John and Matthew, two on each side, and also representations of the six works of mercy with John the Baptist and John the Evangelist above. The large rose window symbolizes the wheel of fortune.
