The Loyalty Fountain is in the Rue de la Palme close to the Berne Bridge and is regarded as one of Fribourg’s finest. A fountain by this name was first mentioned in 1404, but the present fountain dates from 1552/53 and is by the celebrated Fribourg sculptor Hans Gieng. The attractive fluted column is decorated with musical cherubs, as is the composite capital. The twelve-sided limestone basin, column base and spouts are from1768 and the friezes portray a trumpeting angel and St Beatus killing the dragon.
