Le Corbusier Building located 2-4 rue Saint-Laurent in the Villereuse quarter was, at the time of its conception (1931-32) by the great architect of Swiss origin, Le Corbusier, a ground-breaking project, a minor revolution in construction techniques. Built entirely of steel and glass, its metal framework frees the interior walls of any load-bearing function, thus permitting greater freedom in the layout and furnishing of the rooms. The facades, all of glass, enable a maximum of light to enter. From this comes the names given to the building: "Clarté" (light) or "Maison de Verre" (glass house).
