Lake Engsteln (Engstlensee) is located 33 km east of Brienz and is a paradise, not only for fishermen and hikers, but also for those looking for quiet, fresh mountain air or a relaxing boat ride. This natural alpine lake is near the Joch Pass, at an elevation of 1850 metres above sea level, and has a surface area of 0.44 km² (about 109 acres); it also serves as a reservoir. Boats can be hired from the Hotel Engstlenalp whose restaurant serves speciality meals.
