The Lady Fountain stands in the Klosterplatz, in front of the church of the Einsiedeln Abbey (see separate entry). Fed by the St Meinrad’s spring, the water is said to have miraculous healing powers and pilgrims stop to drink from its 14 spouts. Whilst the site had a fountain in the 9th century, in 1749, the square was remodelled and the existing 17th century structure was modified; the gold plated bronze statue in the middle of the fountain temple dates from this time and was created by Domencio Pozzi in Milan. The fountain was renovated in the period 1954-56.
