Built between 1711 and 1718, the Kornhaus is regarded as an important example of Bernese High Baroque architecture. Originally the upper three floors were used as a granary, whilst the ground floors served as a market place and the cellar was used for wine storage. By the beginning of the 19th century, it was no longer required for these purposes and ended up as an ale house. After being used as a festival centre in 1983, it was reopened in 1998 as a multi-purpose venue, staging cultural events and housing a number of facilities including restaurants. Do visit this fascinating historic building.
