The Kornhaus Bridge (Kornhausbrücke) is one of the more important of Berne’s bridges spanning the River Aare. It connects the city and the Kornhaus (see separate entry) with the newer residential areas to the north. Built in the period 1895-1898, the graceful iron and stone road bridge is 355 metres (1.165 feet) long overall and 48 metres (157 feet) high. The main span is 115 metres (377 feet) and there are five subsidiary spans of 36 metres (118 feet).
