Opened in 1992, the Kirchner Museum is devoted to the German expressionist painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938) and contains over 1,400 drawings, graphic works, textiles, paintings, sculptures and sketchbooks. There are also over 800 photographs, documents and a library devoted to both Kirchner and Expressionism. Kirchner came to live in Davos in 1917 and the town and its surroundings were the inspiration many of his paintings. Works by Albert Müller, Fritz Winter, Lyonel Feininger, Erich Heckel, Alexej von Jawlensky, Wilhelm Lehmbruck and Otto Mueller are also exhibited. The building was designed by the Zurich architects Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer.
