Jo Siffert (1936-1971), the Formula I driver who was killed at Brands Hatch, was born in Fribourg, as was Jean Tinguely (1925-1991) the kinetic sculptor of this fountain, one of his well known works. The two men were friends and Tinguely dedicated this 1984 work to Siffert; it was originally intended for the Stravinsky fountain in Paris. Set in a large stone basin, a fantastic black machine is the centrepiece of the fountain and consists of wheels, metal elements, and flexible pipes, spraying water in a display which can be varied according to season.
