Located about 17 km northeast of Berne, Jegenstorf Castle was originally a 12th century stronghold, which was bought in 1720 by Albrecht Friedrich von Erlach and converted into a Baroque country residence in a lovely park. The property passed to the von Stürler family in 1758 and remained theirs until 1934. Opened to the public in 1936, it has a richly furnished interior, from the Renaissance to the 19th century, with particular 18th century emphasis. Paintings, clocks, stoves, a collection commemorating the poet Rudolf von Tavel (1866-1934) and a memorial room to the economist Philipp Emanuel von Fellenberg (1771-1844) are highlights.
