Located approximately 12 km northwest of Altdorf, the delightful village of Isenthal is situated at an altitude of 771 metres. First documented in 1280 as Yseltal, it is a starting point for the ascent of Urirotstock at 2,932 metres (guided tours available). Attractions include the eye-catching St Theodul’s Church, which was inaugurated in 1821 and renovated in 1990 and has a parsonage from around 1600. The restored St Jakob’s Chapel dating from 1861/1862, is a popular wedding venue and the 1993/94 Gitschenen Chapel is a place of meditation. The Sculpture way and Bear way are among the many walking trails.
