The town of Igis is located some 12 km north of Chur, at an altitude of 563 metres and with a population of around 7,500; it has been mentioned in documents under various names since about 840. The reformed church dates from 1486 when the main entrance was built and the nave and choir extended, but the original is believed to date from as early as 1300. The paintings on the north-east wall are the highlight and predate the 1486 extensions. Other attractions are the nearby Schloss Marschlins, the ruins of Burg Falkenstein and Landquart’s 20th century Catholic Church of St. Fidelis.
