Located in the centre of the village of Grandval, about 16 km south of Delémont, is the oldest rustic manor house in the Jura. Built in 1535, it was the home of the knight known as the ‘Bannaret Wisard’. Its striking pyramid-shaped roof covers the house, and also the barn, stables and courtyard. The original shingle roof covering was restored in 1997, but the smoke-preserved rafters remain. Archaeological excavations have uncovered interesting relics including shoes, ceramics and household utensils. Modified in 1800 and 1990, the house was inhabited until 1979; it is now used for meetings, exhibitions and aperitifs.
