The Heiliggeistkirche (Holy Spirit Church), designed by Niklaus Schiltknecht in French Baroque style and built in the period 1726-1729, is regarded as an outstanding example of a Swiss Baroque Reformed church and seats 2,000. The interior is dominated by fourteen massive columns and a high pulpit in front of the organ. The first church on the site belonged to a monastic order founded in 1228; it was known as Spitalkirche as the monks operated a hospital. The choir stalls, which have interesting medieval seals and coats of arms, and the 1596 bell remain from the earlier church.
