The Uri cantonal History Museum is run by the Uri Historical Association who organise guided tours. It is housed in an interesting looking neo-Gothic-style building, built in 1906 and designed by the Lucerne architect Wilhelm Hanauer. The permanent exhibition covers the history and culture of Uri and items on display include weapons, ecclesiastical art, an outstanding collection of wooden figures, portraits, the Alemanns’ tomb, models of regional castles, banners, traditional costumes and much more. The museum also stages temporary exhibitions and in 2001 was awarded the Dätwyler Prize.
