Located in the Burdorf Castle (see separate entry) the Helvetian Gold Museum, opened in 2000, gives an insight into gold panning and gold mining in Switzerland and the Emmental gold rush. The museum also stages special temporary exhibitions related to various aspects of gold. The three permanent collections cover gold samples and tools from around the world, gold items illustrating the art and culture of the metal, and the history of processing gold. Guided tours, which include gold washing, are available.
