Hallwyl Castle is located close to Lake Halwil and about 17 km southeast of Aarau; it was fully restored between 1997 and 2004. The castle complex stretches across three islands and, with its moat, is regarded as one of the most beautiful castles in Switzerland. The permanent exhibition, divided into 11 themes, retraces the 900 years plus history of both the castle and the Hallwyl family. It spans the period from the Middle Ages to modern times, as members of the family tell the story through the medium of an audio guide.
