The remains of Gräpplang Castle are located on a rocky hill about 16 km northwest of Bad Ragaz, just outside the village of Flums. First mentioned in documents in 1249, the castle had many owners, but there was little enthusiasm for its restoration and all usable items were disposed of when the ruins were sold for scrap in 1804. Taken over by the commune of Flums in 1923, the remains were restored as far as was practicable and are open to the public. Later a foundation (Pro Gräpplang) was formed which organises cultural events in and around the Gräpplang ruins.
