Now a typical renaissance work from 1550/51, the Good Samaritan Woman Fountain replaced a wooden original. The outstanding sculpture depicts Christ and the Samaritan woman at a circular Jacob’s well and an arch, decorated with portrayals of the original sin, the Lamb of God and St John’s sermon. The Corinthian capital is decorated with acanthi and scrolls. The Jura stone column base is fluted and twisted and the upper half is in Neuchâtel stone. The frieze has a bust of St. Nicholas of Flue and a gnome with tanners’ tools; the Guild headquarters were located nearby.
