Geneva’s lakefront is one of the city’s greatest assets, with the familiar Jet d’eau and beautiful flowerbeds and other exotic flora, as well as elegant old residences, to delight the eye. On the right bank is the Brunswick Monument, which contains the tomb of Charles II, Duke of Brunswick. Further along the quay is the Pâquis Jetty, with its lighthouse and the public baths. Over the Mont-Blanc Bridge, towards the left bank, one finds the English Garden with its famous flower clock, and the National Monument, which commemorates Geneva’s becoming part of Switzerland in 1815.
