After the repeal of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, a second wave of Protestant refugees flooded into Geneva and it was necessary to build a church specifically designed for Calvinistic worship. Inaugurated in 1715, it originally bore the name "New Temple". It was later renamed for the square on which it was built. The facade is Baroque in style, with a clock on the attic topped by a pediment bearing the Republic’s coat of arms. Of rectangular shape, the interior is entirely whitewashed with its sole ornament being a clock facing the pulpit. It is renowned for its excellent acoustics.
