The starting point for the fascinating Furka Steam Train trip to Gletsch is the railway station at Realp some 8 km southwest of Andermatt. The two locomotives making this trip are named ‘Weisshorn’ and ‘Furkahorn’ and were originally built in 1903 and 1913 respectively. The trip takes about 100 minutes over viaducts, through tunnels, across bridges and through flowering alpine meadows. Amongst the highlights are the Steffenbach Folding Bridge, the Steinstafel Viaduct, the Mutten and Rhone Glaciers and the 1874-meter-long Furka Summit Tunnel. The trains operate from the end of June to the beginning of October.
