The privately financed Franz Gertsch Museum in Burgdorf, is dedicated to the work of a man considered one of the most important contemporary Swiss artists. Frank Gertsch was born in Mörigen in 1930 and is known internationally for his hyper-realistic paintings and woodcuts, which are unique in terms of technique and size. The museum building was designed by the architects Jörg & Sturm of nearby Langnau and was opened in October 2002, it has about 1,000 square metres of exhibition space, of which approximately half is devoted to temporary contemporary art exhibitions.
