The Ethnology Museum in Burgdorf is one of three museums in the castle, the others being the History and Gold museums (see separate entries). Opened in 1909 and housed in the castle since 2001, it presents the cultures of North and South America, Japan, Africa, Oceania and Egypt. The museum’s collection now totals more than 6,000 objects and only a portion of these are on display at any one time. Information boards explain the fascinating exhibits and you can play a North American Indian drum or various African instruments, or even try your hand at weaving on an African loom.
