The Electricity Museum is located on the property of the electric utility Elektra Birseck in Munchenstein, about 6.5 km southeast of Basel. The company is one of the largest electricity suppliers in Switzerland and the museum was opened in 1997 to mark their 100th anniversary. The exhibits cover the history and development of power production and its use and include rare historic equipment. An interesting feature is a laboratory, in which visitors can experiment with electricity. Elektra Birseck also specialise in district heating and telecommunications.
