The Dominican Church (Predigerkirche) is located at the junction of Petersgraben and Blumenrain. The long, slender church dates from the 14th/15th centuries and has an elegant turret. The churchyard walls (which were removed in 1805) had a painting of the ‘The Dance of Death’ by the 15th century artist Konrad Witz, inspired by the 1439 plague in Germany. The church has a famous pipe organ, built by Gottfried Silbermann (1683-1753), a friend and contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and Bach’s works are often performed here. The writer and poet Johann Peter Hebel (1760-1826) was born in the house opposite the church.
