The Devil’s Bridge (Teufelsbrücke), with the Suworow monument nearby (see separate entry), is located about 3 km north of Andermatt. There are, in fact, two bridges, the new 86 metre long bridge built in 1955/56 over the Reuss River at an altitude of 1,402 metres and, adjacent to it, the old bridge. Legend has it that the locals called out the devil’s name and he appeared and agreed to build this bridge, provided the first to cross would be his. The locals agreed, but they drove a goat across first on completion. There is also a 30-metre high waterfall nearby.
