The picturesque village of Cresta in the Avers Valley at a height of 1,960 metres is an attractive mountain resort with good skiing and also acts as a climbing base. In the east are the three peaks of the Weissberg at 3,057 metres and Piz Platta at 3,398 metres. Avers was first documented as Anue or Avre in 1292 and in 1354 was referred to as Auers. Just outside Cresta village is a lovely 17th century church which is a Swiss heritage site and 6 km east is Juf which, at 2,133 metres, is the highest permanently inhabited settlement in the Alps.
