The Coach Museum is the fourth building of the Basel History Museum and was opened in 1981. The museum is housed in a barn, which was part of a country estate designed and built by the Basel architect Melchior Berri (1801-1854), who was also responsible for the Natural History Museum building in Basel. The present building is a 1906 replacement after a fire in 1905. The museum features 19th and 20th century coaches, carriages, sleighs, mail coaches, phaetons, coupés, landaus, hunting carriages and also harnesses, coachmen’s liveries and accessories. The park and gardens around provide a pleasant walk.
