If you are visiting St Imier (see separate entries), you can also take a trip to the picturesque ruins of the castle of d’Erguel, which can be found on a marked path from the cantonal road Saint-Imier-Les Pontins and the village of Sonvilier. There is doubt over the date of construction of the castle but restoration work took place in the 13th century and it seems possible that the Erguël (or Arguel) family settled there in the 11th century. Sonvalier has two museums, the History and Natural History Museum, which has a model of Château d’Erguël and the Weapons Museum.
