Carona is a picturesque village just above Lugano. Although small, it is full of charm, with centuries-old stone houses set in quaint streets. Some houses are less traditional in that they are decorated with bright frescoes. The highlight of the town is the San Grato Botanical Park (see separate entry), which is about 15 minutes walk from the centre of town. Set in the woods just outside town is the pleasant votive church of Madonna d’Ongero (see separate entry). The town is a regular haunt for Swiss visitors in the summer due to its outstanding beauty and mild climate.
