Caneggio, which lies 8 km from Chiasso, dates back to the Middle Ages. Many of its houses have typical Lombard arcades. The valley is famous for its soft cheese, formaggini. Interesting buildings include the 18th Century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, which was constructed on the site of an older building. The 16th Century Church of St. Antonio Patavino, the 17th Century Maggi family house and those of the Cairoli and Vanini families, which date from several different periods. There is a typical old mill in the valley which is worth viewing.
