The village of Brigels (Breil in Romansch), at an altitude of 1,283 metres and with a population of around 1,300, is located about 25 km southwest of Flims. The area was settled in the late Roman era or Early Middle Ages and, whilst Brigels is a ski resort, it is also a good region for walks with splendid views. There are two late gothic churches, St Martin and the restored St Maria and also the chapel of St Eusebius which has external 14th century frescos and is a heritage site. The ruined castles of Schwarzenstein and Heidenberg are in nearby Tavanasa.
