Do not miss the return trip from Brienz to the Rothorn Kulm on the oldest steam-cog railway in Switzerland; there are fantastic panoramic views and it is an exciting ride the whole family will enjoy. The approximately 30 minute journey starts at the restored Valley Station and climbs 1,678 metres over 7.6 km of railway track going through 6 tunnels on the way. The trains have been doing this since the grand opening in 1892. At the top there are hiking trails, or you can just enjoy the alpine scenery and Lake Brienz from the terrace of the Rothorn Kulm Hotel.
