The Bündner Naturmuseum, the natural history museum of Canton of Grisons, was founded in 1872. In 1981 it moved to its present building, designed by the architect Bruno Giacometti (b.1907), the brother of the artists Alberto and Diego. The permanent collection is divided into four sections, Minerals and Geology, Biodiversity, Geography and Ecology and Fish and there is also an extensive library. The minerals collection also covers the discovery of native gold in Switzerland, whilst Biodiversity on the first floor exhibits mammals, reptiles, amphibians and most birds from the region, as well as a pet badger. The basement fish collection includes two aquariums.
