The ancestral seat of the Beroldingen family and first mentioned in documents around 1500, the Schlösschen Beroldingen is located northwest of Altdorf and just south of Seelisberg. It is a country estate as opposed to a fortification and has a superb view of Lake Uri and the Reuss valley. The chapel added in 1545 and dedicated to St Laurentius is worth seeing; its highlights are a winged altarpiece, rococo stucco work to the ceilings and the choir screen. The castle lies on the ‘Swiss Path’ opened in 1991 on the occasion of the 7th centenary of the Swiss Confederation.
