The Baroque church of the former Bellelay Abbey (see separate entry) dating from the 18th century was restored in the period 1957-60. It is a listed historical monument and is used for concerts and exhibitions. Designed by the renowned Austrian architect Franz Beer (1659-1726) and based on the Vorarlberg model, it was built between 1708 and 1714. The two towers formerly had onion domes and the interior is decorated with painted stucco by the Wessobrunner School dating from 1713. The Abbey is the home of the well known Tête de Moine cheese, first made by the monks in the 12th century.
