Located in the garden of the Museum of Art and History (see separate entry), the Astral Sculpture is by one of Switzerland’s most important artists in the field of monumental sculpture. André Ramseyer (1914-2007) was originally from Tramelan in the Jura and lived in Neuchatel; it is said that whilst he stopped working in the 1990s, he carried the keys of his studio until the day he died. The Astral Sculpture was offered to Fribourg to commemorate the 500th anniversary in 1981 of its entry into the Confederation.
