Ascona is very like Locarno in that the town sits in its own little bay on Lake Maggiore and is now a holiday resort. The climate and its sheltered site turned a once thriving fishing port into a busy tourist destination. It has a very long tradition for attracting well-known artists like Isadora Duncan, Herman Hesse, Lenin, and Jung. The Museo Communade d’Arte Moderne and the Music Week both take place during the month of September.
