The Art and Archaeology Library opened in 1911 and is Switzerland’s most important art library. Its collection covers archaeology and the history of art from prehistoric times to the 21st century including painting, sculpture, drawing, etching, architecture and the decorative arts. The library holds 300,000 monographs, 70,000 exhibition catalogues, 70,000 auction catalogues and over 6,000 periodicals. The media reference section includes more than 120,000 slides, plus multimedia items. There are iconographical documents on paper and files on artists.
