The Thurgau Archaeological Museum in Frauenfeld is in the same building as the Natural History Museum (see separate entry); it takes you on an interesting journey through Thurgau history. There are sections dealing with early settlements and the Roman period; amongst the interesting exhibits are a reconstructed early dwelling, findings from the pile dwelling era and a 4,000 year old golden cup from Eschenz. Archaeological methods are covered and there is a botanical garden devoted to historic plants. Children are well catered for and can, for instance, grind an axe or mint a medieval coin. Themed special exhibitions are also staged.
