Andeer is located some 37 km southwest of Chur at an altitude of 979 metres and has a population of around 1,000. It is a historic town and a winter sports and health resort, with a mineral spa and small thermal baths at a water temperature of 34°C. In summer, there are over 400 kilometres of signposted hiking trails through the pine forest of the Rheinwald region, to neighbouring valleys and mountain lakes. Andeer has a 17th century parish church and some fine 16th century houses, such as Haus Padrun, decorated with sgraffito (layers of different coloured plaster scored on completion).
